As the leading association for the digital retail community, we talk about how retailers are using social media almost non-stop here at Shop.org. From thought leadership on best practices to coverage of retailers who are getting it right, we’ve got a multitude of resources to leverage when developing a social media campaign.

But this time, I want to let you know about a different kind of resource.

Since last year’s holiday season, we’ve been building up a solid social community that loves online shopping as much as we do – and it all started with CyberMonday.com. This online community is made up of the fans and followers of CyberMonday.com on Facebook and Twitter – and as a Shop.org member benefit, the chance to leverage this group is yours for the taking.

Here’s a rundown: Since November of last year, Shop.org member retailers have partnered with us to build our social media community, increase awareness of CyberMonday.com and earn some publicity for their own brands through giveaways on social media sites. Because of the success of the initiative, we’ve continued it past the holiday season, and feature partner retailers on random Mondays throughout the year. Partner retailers enjoy the following benefits:

  • Prominent mention of the retailer who is providing the gift card(s) in status updates or tweets, potentially tying it into the merchant (ie: “Today we’re giving away five $50 American Eagle gift cards. If you win, what will you buy?” or similar)
  • Opportunity to provide a special shopping code or “deal” for us to post to CyberMonday.com fans/followers, with the understanding that it could be widely circulated or re-used. (ie: “Didn’t win an AE gift card? You still win! Take 20% off one item today only with code xyz123”)
  • For each $250 in gift cards you provide, we will set aside a “day” for your promotion.
