Research: Retailers overall see positive YOY Q1 growth

The Q1 quarterly online sales flash survey results are in – and encouraging they are. Conducted in partnership with Forrester Research, we ask** retailers every quarter or so how their gross online sales grew for the previous quarter compared to the same period a year earlier.

Shop.org Members can download the data summary and results overview now. A couple of highlights:

  • Average web retailer sales growth (Q1 2010 vs Q1 2009) was 12.3%
  • Over half of retailers surveyed reported YOY sales increases of 10% and higher
  • Almost one fifth of retailers reported YOY sales increases of 10% or less
  • Whereas the majority of large and mid-size retailers surveyed experienced sales increases, almost two-thirds of small retailers ($10MM and under) also experienced sales growth

As always, please leave a comment below with your thoughts.

**  Shop.org and Forrester Research jointly ask retailers a quarter and twice during the holidays to tell us how their YOY gross online sales have grown.  The survey is anonymous and asks simply, “How did your gross online sales (top line) for the period January 1 through March 31, 2010 perform relative to the same period last year (January 1 through March 31, 2009)?  Note:  Please include gross sales transacted via both the Web and mobile devices (m-commerce), if applicable.”
