Online Retailers and Haiti Relief

Fulfilling online orders domestically and internationally requires a sophisticated logistics system.  One company with knowledge in this area has found a way to apply the logistics involved in online retail to get needed supplies to the earthquake victims in Haiti.

BorderJump in conjunction with Aeropost has organized a cooperative effort to airlift supplies donated by US retailers to help earthquake victims in Haiti recover and rebuild. Through the program, merchant donors may ship their donations to the Aeropost processing facility in Miami, where all items will be consolidated for transport to the Caribbean.

Among the items requested by the government of Haiti are blankets, tents, sleeping bags, personal hygiene items, containers for liquids and food, cleaning equipment and tools.  A full list of needed items and other details can be found in the link above.

Participating in this effort can be a great way for online retailers to put their unique skills and strengths to work to help with a tragic situation.

Of course, there are a number of great organizations that are also helping with the situation in Haiti including The Clinton Foundation, Pan American Relief, CARE and Doctors Without Borders.

Feel free to reply to this post with suggestions for other ways that our industry can help the people of Haiti.
