The FTC hearing is being webcast live now (12/7 – 1:30pm EST) .  We’ll be putting up a summary after it concludes.

Shop.org has been closely monitoring developments in the privacy space in Washington.  Liz Oesterle, the VP of Government Relations, spoke yesterday on our webinar, Social Media Safety:  Staying Legal and Out of Trouble, now available for playback.

On Dec 7th, 2009, The Federal Trade Commission will host a series of day-long public roundtable discussions to explore the privacy challenges posed by the vast array of 21st century technology and business practices that collect and use consumer data. Such practices include social networking, cloud computing, online behavioral advertising, mobile marketing, and the collection and use of information by retailers, data brokers, third-party applications, and other diverse businesses.

If you’re in the DC area, and interested in attending, or want to watch online, more information is available at the FTC site. The event is open to the general public and should prove to be interesting!
