The House Committee on Energy and Commerce’s Subcomittee on Commerce, Trade, and Consumer Protection will be holding a hearing this Thursday on ‘Behavioral Advertising: Industry Practices And Consumers’ Expectations’ We’ll keep you updated on the policy implications, and provide a link to the hearing.

[The list of speakers is now updated on the Committee's site]

Additionally, in our ongoing effort to provide research and resources to help retailers run their businesses most effectively, Forrester Research is generously providing Shop.org Members an exclusive copy of Patti Freeman-Evans’ summary of current e-commerce related legislative issues (a $749 value). The topics at hand lie at the very heart of online retail:
· Privacy policy and behavioral targeting
· Domain name registration
· Tax
· Credit
· Gift card rules

Read Patti’s summary as your first step, then get involved to be heard and shape these business-critical issues – whether by talking directly with your legislators and/or getting involved with the Shop.org Policy Committee. With some issues – e.g. ICANN top level domain names and behavioral targeting – currently the focus of hearings on the Hill, online retailers must be aware of and participate in the current legislative activity.
