Last week we had our well attended webinar on “How Washington Can Affect the Web – What You Don’t Know May Hurt You.”  You can still register to view the archive.

Paul Martino and Elizabeth Oesterle talked about comprehensive online privacy legislation that is expected to be considered by Congress in 2009.  This could have particular effects on personalization, recommendation, advertising and other services that depend upon the collection of customer behavioral data.
They also discussed  ICANN’s announcement of its intention to move forward with plans for creating unlimited numbers of new generic Top-Level Domains (gTLDs), and the issues that this could cause.

2009 is shaping up to be a year with significant Public Policy implications for digital retailers, and the Shop.org Team will keep you informed.  You can see our Public Policy category here: http://blog.shop.org/category/public-policy/
